Pitt is ‘It’ Outselling Pavarotti/Bocelli/Groben/Crawford

May 21, 2005 3:50 PM ET

New release: “Be My Love” from “ America’s Tenor,” Charles Pitt, out sold ”those other tenors” this week adding impetus to Pitt’s Euro tour. Americans and Euros chose Pitt’s romantic-macho vocals {he plays polo and sings “popera”}, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

For Immediate Release:Charles Pitt, Los Angeles, comes with a lavish kind of reference: pop-goddess Madonna calls him the sexiest tenor alive. He plays polo matches, water-skis, has a secondary career as an actor and is revolutionizing the opera scene in America by coining the term 'popera': MTV style opera videos, shown on MTV, which bring young people to the point of becoming enthusiastic about classical music.

This can't be a bad thing. It works, the voice being rather good for a popular tenor, with a sweet touch to it. His début CD, Be My Love, is already selling quite well. Pitt is at his best with such pieces as track 3, Granada, and, of course, with musicals. On his début CD another track that needs to be heard to appreciate what he has on offer vocally is of a more popular variety, Amici, which he does extraordinarily well, with distinct baritonal touch to his voice, and which shows why the American audiences are increasingly falling under the spell of the sportive tenor.

Pitt is mixing pop and opera, as his trade name suggests, and so it is difficult to place him in one or the other. But perhaps one does not need to, as he seems to have invented his own category and is doing just fine with that. He gets good reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. 'His singing is not only beautiful but healing', USA Today writes of him, and The Times (London) says: 'His voice falls on the ear like the warm touch of a lover's hand'.

Known For Singing, Floridian Pitt At Home on Polo Field
Florida Horsemen Magazine - March/April 2004
By: Cynthia Morrison - Palm Beach Jousting
Noted as "America's Tenor", Charles Pitt attributes his success to his great passion not only for his singing but for his chosen equestrian sport of Polo as well.  This celebrity Polo player happens to be a native south Floridian spending his childhood years in Ft. Pierce and he continues a part time residence in Martin County. In his childhood years there, the family owned furniture store welcomed friends to visit and share songs at the piano. It was at that time when Charles became set on his singing career.

It didn't take long for Hollywood to discover this handsome aspiring and talented singer/actor. Charles soon made his way to Los Angeles where he was co-star in the movie "Monaco forever" along with Jean Claude Van Damme. This film required Charles to take riding lessons from one of Hollywood's finest horseman in the Biz, Colin Danngard from Australia. After realizing his love for the horse and his exceptional riding ability, Charles then became an avid Polo player in 1996. His acting brought him to star in such films as "Be My Love", "Les Femmes d'Argent", "Moving Target", "White Stallion", "The Pilot", "Skatetown USA", "Hollywood Man" and more.

Pitt, who was recently in concert at the Kravis center in West Palm Beach, Charles Pitt is one man who is not afraid to sing from the heart! Although in his pre-show radio interview he best describes his singing style in comparison to his horsemanship in that his singing is an extension of his breathing and diaphragm with a light throat as his riding style tends to be more leg usage with light hands for the reins and seeing the horse as an extension of himself. "His voice seems to float above the music with angelic lightness supported with an intensity of deep passion". Is how Irene Chapman of USA Today described his vocal style "His singing is not only beautiful but healing."

Polo certainly has its fair share of "Celebs" taking part and Charles continues to play alongside the likes of Stephanie Powers and Davey Jones but keenly reminisces of his game with the Prince of Wales during the Royal visit to Palm Springs California. He also looks forward to playing the field at Wellington again in the near future. To learn more about this horse loving American Icon visit www.charlespitt.com

“Charles Pitt’s voice soars with charm, clarity, and rhythmic grace. He does not conquer listeners; he seduces them with warmth of tone; he doesn’t blow you away with power but caresses you with color and sensuous tone. Pitt’s voice falls on the ear like the warm touch of a lover’s hand.”

AMERICA'S TENOR
CHARLES PITT

Charles Pitt is seducing the masses with his "Popera." "His voice caresses you and he's the sexiest tenor alive," say Madonna and Cindy Crawford after screening of "Be My Love" at Planet Hollywood. "For pure beauty and honesty, his voice is without match; it [his voice] truly does caress you," says Elaine Blythe President of The Los Angeles Film & Arts. “One word describes his singing—‘beautiful.’”

Pitt's film credits include: "General Hospital" “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” “Godfather III” “The Winds of War” "Holocaust" “The Pilot"(with Cliff Robertson)"Monaco Forever"(starring with Van Damme). Pitt's first love, however, is singing.

“Despite all the Hollywood hype, this man can sing. Finally, a tenor who sings with warmth and ease; no hefty Italian assaulting your ears here; a lyric voice with warm sexy low notes and crystal clear diction. Pitt’s presence on stage is captivating; his voice seems to float above the music with angelic lightness supported with an intensity of deep passion. His singing is not only beautiful but healing.”
Irene Chapman/USA Today

Monte Carlo: 27, 2002
Pitt a Hit July
By ALAN RIDING
MONTE CARLO , Monaco
-- The slow demise of the opera festival in this bucolic southern French city went largely unnoticed until American Tenor Charles Pitt appeared. Pitt, an American polo playing tenor, enthralled the audience in a dazzling program of pop and opera-- “Popera.” When Pitt's video, "Be My Love" was shown to the capacity audience at intermission; it drew raves from pop and opera lovers alike.

"Be My Love," echoes the recent wave of nostalgia and romance complimented by Pitt's athletic good looks and a voice that expresses passion and intimacy. This "Popera" is a wonderful new way of presenting spectacular music and a perfect vehicle for Charles Pitt's world class singing.

Pitt's POPERA" shakes up Opera World Turns on MTV Crowd
Charles Pitt jumps fences on a hot thoroughbred and hits high "C" in "Be My Love." Staunch Opera critics don't like the idea of Opera going MTV but Hollywood loves it.

Pitt's singing has been described as a combination of Crawford/passion, Iglesias/sweetness and Pavarotti/power. "These comparisons make for great and sometimes controversial press, but the fact is he[Charles Pitt] sings beautifully in true Bel Canto style moving effortlessly from a French Art song("Pour Un Baiser") to "Music of the Night" to a stirring, yet intimate rendition of "Nessun Dorma." …. A great looking man who sings like an angel with a presence of strength and vulnerability. Pitt's idea of combining classical and pop music has found a wide and appreciative audience. Pitt's Popera is popular.""
Mike Shamini- LA Times

“Charles Pitt, a handsome polo playing tenor sings with warmth and ease with a voice that soars with charm, clarity and grace. Sexy low notes and crystal clear diction; he caresses you with color and sensuous tone. Pitt’s presence on stage is captivating; due in no small part to the chemistry with his two gorgeous Russian ladies who play as fabulous as they look; this menage a trois--bel canto trio-- makes beautiful music." Felding/LA Times.
“He sat close to her and touched her face; then began singing softly; we felt more than we heard from those soft, delicate, beautiful tones—like sugar and honey, yet with an intensity that fell on us with great excitement. When he reached the climax of his song [“Serenade” from Student Prince], a wave of emotion swept over us bringing many to tears; it was really quite beautiful.” Jennifer Morgan/Chelsea Art Club/London

MTV Producer, Carlo Gustaff wanted Placido Domingo until he heard Charles Pitt sing "Granada" and saw him play polo; he chose Pitt. "Charles Pitt can out ride and out sing them all. A tenor on a horse who sings as beautiful as he rides.”
Samantha Charles/Equestrian Magazine

"Charles Pitt may prove to be the finest male singer of his generation. The effortless quality of his performance and the depth of communication achieved - the tingling warmth and feeling in every song - easily justify his reputation"
